Week of May 11--Literary Devices
Bonus for Ms. Locante's class...Kahoot will be on Thursday at 11:30 this week.
We're going to talk about literary devices this week. Literary devices are tools that authors use to make their writing even better.
Let's focus on the 2 literary devices of imagery and similes. Read about imagery at this site. Find out about similes here.
Now you'll listen to a story and focus on the imagery and similes that you hear. Go to the orange bar at the top of the page and hover over "Distance Learning". Click on "Chapter Book Read Alouds". Click on Chapter 2 of "The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle". Begin at minute 12:00 and stop at 17:27. There's a dead spot in the video, but you won't miss anything important.
* When you've found the 3 similes, click on this form to tell me what they are.
* Now, using the imagery the author created in the book, draw a picture of either Zachariah, the ship's cook, OR draw a picture of the galley, the ship's kitchen. Email your picture to Ms. J. at [email protected]. I can't wait to see them!!
